CA Course Roadmap: From Class 12 to Chartered Accountant
Class 12 Pass
After completing your Class 12 board exams from any stream (Commerce, Science, or Arts), you become eligible to register for the CA Foundation course with ICAI. You can register during your Class 12 itself to save time.
CA Foundation (4 Months Preparation)
The entry-level exam covering Accounting, Business Laws, Quantitative Aptitude, and Business Economics. As per the updated ICAI syllabus, exams are now held three times a year—in January, May, and September. A well-prepared student clears Foundation in the first or second attempt.
CA Intermediate (8–12 Months Preparation)
Six subjects across two groups, as per the updated ICAI syllabus. Students begin their 2.5-year Articleship (practical training) after clearing at least one group of CA Intermediate. The Intermediate exam can be attempted group-by-group or both groups together, and is now held three times a year.
Articleship (2.5 Years)
Mandatory practical training under an Experienced Chartered Accountant, updated to 2.5 years as per the new ICAI syllabus. During Articleship, students gain real-world exposure to auditing, taxation, and financial advisory work. CA Final preparation typically happens simultaneously during the later part of Articleship.
CA Final (12–18 Months Preparation)
The most advanced level, covering six highly specialised subjects as per the updated ICAI syllabus. Candidates appear for CA Final in the last six months of Articleship or after completing it. Unlike Foundation and Intermediate, CA Final continues to be held twice a year—in May and November. Clearing CA Final earns you the prestigious ICAI membership.

🚪 Direct Entry Route — Skip CA Foundation
Commerce graduates/post-graduates with 55% or more marks (other graduates/post-graduates with 60% or more), as well as students who have cleared the Intermediate level of ICSI or ICMAI, can enrol directly into CA Intermediate through the ICAI Direct Entry Scheme—without appearing for CA Foundation.
